How to Grow Costmary: Sow the seeds on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Cover the seeds with only a light sprinkling of compost or vermiculite as light aids germination. Water from the base of the tray, and place in a propagator or a warm place, ideally at 20°C (68°F). Keep the compost moist but not wet at all times.
When to Plant: Plant from early spring to early autumn.
Features: Costmary is a perennial with oval, serrated leaves that can grow up to 2 m (6.6 ft) high. During summer, it shows small, yellow, button-shaped blossoms which appear in clusters.
Uses: The fresh, sweet-smelling leaves are used to flavor soups, salads, and sauces. Like mint, the leaves make an aromatic garnish for fresh fruit or cold drinks.
